Sheesh, Sony must really be feeling like a porn star in sunday service with how nervous and panicky they've been since launching the Playstation 3 last year.
I've said many times on the page I hate the PS3 with a passion, but my biggest concern has always been the price they expect people to pay. To me, it really seems like who ever runs the company is severely out of touch with the core demographic of gaming. It's high schoolers and college students, and that chunk of society is fucking broke.
I'm part of that group. My sister is part of that group. My friends are part of it as well. We have other things to worry about like gas money, paying rent, college loans, text books, cell phone bills, and food. The last thing we need is some behemoth black console with a ridiculous price tag on it. Fuck you, Sony.
Sony was stubborn and still released a $600 console and not surprisingly at all, sales were instantly crap. They cut the price a few months ago in what everyone was dubbing a "fire sale" and now they have cut the price yet AGAIN. The 80 GB will now run you $500 while the new 40 GB will set you back $399.
The 60 GB model is discontinued.
Okay, so most people don't need a 80 GB hard drive on a damn console (that's the size of my current HDD on my computer, which is oddly enough a Sony Vaio, and I still have room left after 5 years), so I'm assuming most folks will go for the still expensive, yet much more affordable 40 GB model. I was intruiged by this option, really, my PS3 hatin' ass comtemplated a purchase if you can fathom that. It's around the same price point of the 360 -- a system I don't own yet but plan on buying within a few months, so I was starting to re-evaluate my stance on the third Playstation.
PS3's only good exclusive, Heavenly Sword. Congrats... *rolls eyes*
That was until I heard that it DOES NOT have PS2 backwards compatibility. Are you serious?! Sony's always taking some lame ass short cut like saying vibration wasn't possible on the wireless, Wii rip off motion sensitive SixAxis controller then saying they can do it a year later. So now all you guys who bought an extra controller or two for $50 a pop will have to vomit up another $50, $60, or whatever the hell they overprice the shit when they release a new version (the Dual Shock 3) with rumble. Sony, eat dick.
PS2 compatibility is a BIG DEAL. The fact they removed it all together is very insulting and I find it even more offensive that in a recent interview the Sony rep said the following:
"The 40 gigabyte from a backwards compatibility perspective -- it'll play PS One games but we've basically removed the PS2 backwards compatibility. As I said earlier, we're looking to cost reduce the unit so everything's on the table. The research that we have, consumers like backwards compatibility. It's nice to have, but also we know it's not their primary purchase consideration; and price is a more important consideration than PS2 backwards compatibility. So, I think our position on our commitment to the PS2 gamers is such that we've been supporting the PS2 consumer and will continue to support the PS2 as a platform for ten full years. We're in the eighth year. There's 160 games coming out for PS2. So, if you're into PS2 games, we're right there with you, and there's a $129 unit that'll play them very, very well called the PS2." -- Source: IGN PS3
What a load of shit! HOW THE STRAWBERRY FUCK can you have PS One compatability but no PS2? Honestly, does that make a single shred of sense?! The Sony rep goes on to basically say "people already have PS2s so we don't need that feature". While that's true, you've got to realize I don't want to have a bajillion fucking consoles hooked up to my TV all the time. Backwards compatability is a standard feature these days and for this model of the PS3 not to have it is the biggest load of crap I've read from Sony in awhile.
What's next? They take out the Blu Ray player? Atleast that shortcut would bring the damn price down. And honestly, who the fuck watches HD movies? 3 people? This is why the 360 and the Wii are sitll on standard DVDs. Nobody gives a damn about HD crap yet. It's on the rise, true, but it's still a luxury item.
Bottomline, Sony better get their shit straight. I didn't mean to cuss so much, but do I really have any other option with the amount of douchebaggery going on here?

The thing that puzzles me is that the PS2 is still a great seller for Sony, so obviously there's interest in the PS2 still. With that amount of interest, it's not going to just go away within the next 7 years. They may stop selling the actual system, but the games will still be at Gamestop and on Amazon.com.
Will a lot of them be out of print? Yes. But RPG players love going back and playing old stuff. Hell, everyone does every now and then. Going back to PS2 graphics from PS3 doesn't hurt your eyes as bad as going from PS2 to PS1.
Then you got games like Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, and Singstar that are fun party games and don't rely on the graphics. Now people won't even be able to put those back in to play, either...
Sony is on drugs.
I'm getting a 360 as soon as I can.

Now i got to ask a question who bought there ps2 to play ps1 games i didn't and also ya'll hate the PS3 for to reason that everybody else does the price and the games for me i buying a ps3 for free online MGS4,GT5, and GTA4
and if one person tells me that GTA4 is goin to be better on the 360 i'll shoot you dead if you haven't played the xbox versions on GTA3, GTAVC,and GTASA you don't understand what i'm talking about. paq come on PS3 price drop was goin to happen but now heres a question for you and if your a geek like me you'll know what i'm talking about do ya'll remember FF games on the ps1 with the 3 to 4 disc and some other RPG's and some action games with 2 disc microsoft is not to far from having 2 to 3 dics i'm not a fan boy of sony but i'm just saying i can't see myself having to load another disc in the middle of playin a game but isn't this next gen now back on topic about this whole sony sucks things if you think about sony's got two systems out and games are still being made can't say the same for Mircosoft(ass hats) but i to admit the 360 is doin good when there working and if you buy a 360 your rich cuz you can have more money to buy more when your frist one breaks so on that topic of sony sucks no sony is sruggling yes nintendo is goin to lead this gen now mirocsoft i don't know about cuz they are having hardware issue add-on issues and xbox live issues when they get there act together maybe but i think sony can comeback when they get those titles

Would I have bought a PS2 if it didn't have PS1 playback? Yes, but I would have wondered why the hell as system that shares the same name and button config. as the original PSX couldn't play the older games.
It's a load of crap that the current PS3's have partial backward compatibility and the new 40 GB will have absolutely zero. If that's the case, then change the fucking name of the system. There's no need in continuing the brand name if you can't play everything that helped establish the brand in the first place.
But it's not just the fact the PS3 can't play PS2 stuff, it's a combination of factors that lead me to believe that Sony has no damn clue what they're doing at all.
I don't care about multi-disc games. Is it that much of a pain to eject one and put in another? I don't think any system will need those anymore though.
And you're talking about 360s breaking down? That may be true, but atleast Microsoft acknowledges the fact and replaces the system for free whereas Sony says there are no problems with their shit. My PS2 broke on it's own and Sony wouldn't replace it, so I was left with my dick in the breeze along with a load of other people who had laser issues like I did. I had to buy a new PS2.
As far as GTA goes, if this was the last gen., I'd agree with you, but the 360 version is most likely going to end up being the better of the two. That doesn't mean the PS3 one is going to be ass lol, but I think the 360 will have the edge here.
I'll put up with the PS3 being retarded, but I'm not paying $400 for it. When that shit hits $199 call me. I'm just saying the Wii and 360 are definite 2008 purchases for me. PS3 has no exclusives, man. Like virtually zero worth getting excited over.

For me the 360 verison of GTA is not goin to be better.I don't care how you cut it. Rockstar is going to have the game geared better for the PS3 one the controls and two the disk space.
Yea Mircosoft shelled out 50million for the epsodic content (Bitch Move)
but who really wants to download new weapons or different cars or worst more mission after you spent 60-100 hours to get that 100%. Cuz you know there going to make it difficult.
Now when it comes to exclusives i'll give a list of ten that will be great for the PS3
10.God Of War 3
9.LA Norie
8.KillZone 2
7.Little Big Planet
6.Metal Gear Online
5.Metal Gear Solid 4
4.Motorstorm 2
3.Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
2.SOCOM: Confrontation
1.Tekken 6
Now Great Games Out Now and there exclusives.
5.Warhawk
4.MotorStorm
3.Heavenly Sword
2.Ridge Racer 7
1.Resistance: Fall of Man

(this is mostly in response to your facebook post, but it was too long lol) Yeah, the 360 doesn't have full compatibility but I didn't have an Xbox lol. On the same token, if Sony wanted to cut the costs they shouldn't have added so much shit to it lol. So to cut the costs, they take out features they wanted in it in the first place. Lame.
Well, downloading PS1 games is one thing, but PS2? PS2 is still hot right now and will be for another 2.5 years at the most so I don't see the advantage in dl'ing them. Plus Nintendo lets you dl old ass games from the NES up to n64 era. Wii plays gamecube shit. Nintendo didn't even have to do that since the cube didn't even use standard DVDs.
Sony just needs to work on their public image. They very well might be doing things to "help" consumers but with arrogant company reps. telling me I should play PS2 games on the PS2 when the PS3 had the feature to begin with is insulting.
Packing in Spider-Man 3 with the 40 GB isn't going to make up for not being able to finish playing Final Fantasy X-2 or picking up God of War or whatever old game I'm still playing or missed the boat on. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer. Between watching TV and paq-land, dude, I got zero time for video games. To me, being able to play old games is a big deal with the Playstation brand.
