The bouncy girls of Drake's new video

Can't say I'm a fan of Drake, or "Wheels" as I call him. His music has been floating around on the web for a good bit now, and the blogs have been practically domin' him up. All the while I've been purposely avoiding hearing his material, because when somebody is so hyped up to me, I'm automatically turned off from it. Not to mention this is the same hi-yellow negro from Canada I've been watching on Degrassi for years; I can't buy him as the supposed heir-apparent to hip-hop. This is Jimmy, got-dammit.

Wheels recently signed with Lil' Wayne's Young Money label, which shouldn't surprise anyone as the two of them have been up each other's ass cracks while playing tiddlywinks for a hot minute now. News broke a few weeks ago he was shooting a video for his song "Best I Ever Had" and it would be directed by Kanye West. The clip hit the interwebz earlier today (July 2), and can't say I'm too impressed.

I should have known having West at the helm, who has been quoted on record saying he's addicted to porn, wouldn't be the best route to take...

Observations:

  • I thought Jay-Z wanted Auto-tune to die off? Even if this track was recorded before Hov sent out the memo, can't help but notice it lol.
  • I'm all for bouncing boobery, but I think 'Ye took it beyond too far with this video to the point to where it's not very comedic and more degrading to women. I also think "Best I Ever Had" sets a new record for the amount of slow-mo used. Where's Guinness?
  • Is it just me, or does Wheels have a flow hauntingly similar to Lil' Wayne? You could interchange the two on the cut and get the same effect. That could be a complement, but since I'm not a Weezy fan, I don't want a mini-me version of him running around.
  • So it's Drake's team of bouncy airheads versus the team of average, normal looking women? That's a great message to send to the little girls, guys.
  • The song itself is pretty good, despite my hater view on Drake -- but this video is POINTLESS and astutely WHACK. So the team of chickenheads lose and the video's over? I wasted nearly six minutes of my life for what?
  • I chuckled at the "you only taught us how to stretch!" and the "TAKE THAT D!" parts, but that was about it. Kanye, you failed on this one.

Update, 07.04.09:

I unearthed an interview Wheels did with Complex Magazine about the video shoot. I think it's interesting to read in hindsight, given the amount of backlash the video has received in the very same circle of blogs that have supported him. Once again, I'm correct in my early haterisms while Drake is busy losing fans over "The Best I Ever Had".

Here's a snippet from the interview:

"The concept of the video is, I'm a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don't take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning." -- Source: Complex.com

Hmm, that kind of got lost in between bouncing titty number seven and eight.

What did you guys think? Hit up the comments.
