Where Did Pop Go? Thailand, of course!

Tata Young The 90s were the golden age of Pop music. Everyone who grew up in the 90s couldn't avoid pop sensations such as the Backstreet Boys, *N Sync, Britney Spears, etc. No matter how annoying or campy their music was, you couldn't help singing it randomly, whilst shopping in Wal-Mart.

But when the new millennium dawned, it also signaled the end of the pop music era. Now "Pop" music is infused with hip-hop beats, and synthesized voice-overs.

Where has Pop music gone? Is it dead forever? I used to think so, until I heard some music from Thailand...

Thailand is the absolute, last place on earth that I thought I'd hear pop music. In fact, I wasn't even looking for it. As most of my friends know, I listen to a lot of Japanese music, and watch their TV shows. Well, on some awards show, I saw a performance by a half-Thai woman named Tata Young.

Yep. That's her real name. Tata. The song she performed was by no means good (it was an absolutely annoying Pop song called "Sexy, Naughty, Bitchy"), but the point is that is was Pop. And not the horrible, A.D.D. Pop music of Japan, but actual pop music. I decided to look more into this Tata business...

As, it turns out Tata isn't the only halfy in the Thai Pop market. Hunky, half-Danish, half-Thai, singer/actor Peter Corp Dyrendal is a sensation over there as well (that's a blog for another time though...lol). But Tata's sound is reminiscent to that of the American 90's Pop era, which is why I'm interested in her.

Now, I know what you guys are saying -- "Why do you care so much about this chick if she doesn't sing in English?" Well, good news guys because, guess what, she does! However, that doesn't make up for the fact, that at times her voice is whiny along with her music. Despite that, Tata Young has resurrected Pop music, and well... I'm proud of her lol.

Her lastest cd, is called 'Temperature Rising'. It's in English, and if you feel nostalgic, go ahead and give it a listen. If you love Pop music, believe me, it's worth a listen...
