When R&B sensation Akon is not preoccupied molesting 9th graders or gorilla-press slamming his fans at concerts, he somehow finds the downtime to sign fresh, young talent to his fledging label, Kon Live Records (does everyone and their grandma have a damn label these days? Sheesh..).
The first act to release an album on the new imprint is the sexy and equally talented Jamaican R&B duo known simply as Brick & Lace.
Nailah (the one with the lighter hair color) and Nyanda (dark-haired) Thourborne aren't just another cookie cutter diva pop couple, though. Their music, naturally (considering they are from Kingston, Jamaica) consists of heavy Reggae elements but is infused with elements of hip-hop and R&B similar to the sonic stylings of Sean Paul and new comer Sean Kingston, but with a unique flavor.
As far as the name of the group goes, the girls say their mother came up with the "Lace" part, and while they liked it, Nailah and Nyanda say the name was missing a harder element so they added "Brick" to their moniker. In an explanation that makes more sense than Fred Durst attempting to rationalize the decision to name his band "Limp Bizkit," (which is.. well, google it lol) the gals say the name "represents the duality and complexity of the everywoman". A tad over explained, but it's good enough for me I guess.
Their debut album "Love Is Wicked" features the production of Akon, Cool & Dre, WILL.I.AM, and Jazze Pha and should be out sometime this year to my knowledge. I couldn't find a concrete release date for it anywhere in my research, so it's either coming out this year or it's going to get delayed until '08. Either way, you can find more of their tracks online if you look or you can simply check out their Myspace page right here.
