Adina Howard

It seems like somewhere, somebody told R&B singer Adina Howard that "sex sells".

Apparently, homegirl didn't let that nugget of information go in one ear, and right back out the other.

Instead, Adina released her debut album in 1995 titled "Do You Wanna Ride?," whose cover had her seductively leaning on a car with her ass being the focal point.

Get it? There's a car there, but she's really asking if you want to ride her. Some clever play on words that totally went over my head when I was 9-years-old and knee deep in Super NES games and Power Rangers.

The album in question featured all kinds of crazy, hyper-sexual songs with ridiculous titles like "You Can Be My Nigga," "You Got Me Humpin', and " "Horny for Your Love," but the only one people remember is the hit single "Freak Like Me". You can consider her a one-hit wonder, but with a song like this you'd wonder why she never had any other real mainstream success with Lil' Kim basically being the rap version of her.

The song is insanely catchy and screams mid-90's R&B lol. She's virtually fallen off the radar, but Howard is still making music. In fact, you can peep her music Myspace (which is her official site now since her URL redirected to it when I googled searched her broke ass) right here if you feel inclined to do such. Still, I think she'd have a better career in pornographic media with the amount of freaky crap she talks about.

And for those real music heads, you can hunt down the remix of this by UK pop group The Sugababes. It's a different take on the song, as it's really more electronica than the smoothness of the original, but the harmonies are the same. It will have to grow on you, but I think it's pretty good in it's own right.

Until next week's Flashback, I hope I made somebody feel old today haha.

I remember hearing this on the radio with my mom in the car one day before school. I knew it had some thing to do with sex, even though I couldn't grasp on to every part of it, so it felt kind of awkward to hear this mess with my mother right next to you lol.

Everyone our age loves this song haha. The 90's just kicked so much ass on so many levels. I gotta preserve the retro.

On a sidenote, this is going to one of those jams we all dance do when we're 50 infront of our kids while we say "Whatchu know about this? Lemme show you how we used to get down" lmao

I can't wait to listen to the Oldies but Goodies station and here Adina howard or Boy 2 Men or any of them. I mean i'm a fan of my parents music, people like Earth wind and Fire (my favorite), but nothing beats the 90's. TLC ruled my life.
