Anthony sent me an e-mail the other day that contained a link to the
music video of that "Come On Ride The Train" song by the Quad City DJs from YEARS AGO lol.
That got my wheels spinning... why not just make this a weekly thing on the site? I mean, I'm sure the people visiting paq-land.com are either between 18 and 22, so I'm sure they'd remember classic videos too, right? YAY FOR BEING OLD! GO 90's!
My pick this week is "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails.
Side note: I think this is the uncut version because, color me crazy, but I think I'd remember seeing tits on TV in 1994 lol...
I wanted to pick something funny and really old, but I decided to go with this because it's a video and song that really shaped my views on music. First time I saw this video was on MTV back in '94. I was seven and a half or eight years old at the time and never really listened to music at all aside from video game crap.
This video was so crazy and disturbing that I just had to keep watching it when I flipped past MTV one day. I didn't understand the lyrics like "I wanna f*** you like an animal/I wanna feel you from the inside" back then (why would I? LOL), but still, the beat was nuts and is one reason I probably like techno flavored rock like Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson (yeah, I'm black and dig those guys lol) and just techno in general these days. I'd say I wouldn't even be making music these days if it wasn't for this video, so that's why I picked it.
Even looking at it now, the video itself is a classic. They don't make videos like this anymore in any genre. Most vids from the mid 90's LOOK like they came from that era. This is very timeless and could pass as a recent video easily.
NIN has a new album out called "Year Zero", and I've been meaning to dl it since I hear it's damn good electronica -- but "Closer" remains one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. Since I started working with music I've gained a new respect for it.
Trent Reznor is a genius.
